Paging Dr. Jones

Dr. Jones was quite the force in my childhood home. Anytime my siblings or I got hurt or were sick, my dad would ask us if he needed to call Dr. Jones. When we said yes, dad would pick up the phone and pretend to call the pretend Dr. Jones. He would talk in a hokey voice and, without fail, Dr. Jones always told him we were going to be okay. It worked every time.

We could have used Dr. Jones this week. Madeleine got a bad viral infection and had to go back to the ER on Sunday. She was admitted after several hours of IV fluids didn't seem to help. After two long days and nights, we are home and starting to recover.

Here are a few iPhone pics I took along the way...

Even though she had had an IV in that arm the day before, I begged the nurse to put it in her left arm so she could have the fingers on her right hand free for sucking. When they were placing the IV, she kept looking at me with the saddest eyes then said and signed "all done". Every few hours during our stay, she would look at me and beg "all done". It broke my heart every time.

These little baby cages are so sad! Luckily, there was also a bed in the room so she and I could co-sleep most of our stay.

This was after 40 hours on the IV. She was still vomiting and having diarrhea but it was the first time she sat up in two days.

Finally, she was feeling better on Tuesday night and wanted to play again. It was great to see her laughing and dancing....oh, and to see her ribs sticking out.

When we got in the car to go home, I strapped her in the car seat and was finally able to tell her "all done". This was her reaction to those words. Priceless.
