This is is four days after Madeleine's strabismus surgery.
She did well during the two hour surgery (more than I can say for myself!). The operation resected two muscles in each eye in the hope of correcting severe misalignment and increasing her binocular vision.
Dr. Rabiah told us that everyone in the operating room adored her so much that they all started talking about wanting to have more kids. He knows Maddie pretty well and told the team how opinionated she can be. Not two seconds later, when they were waking her up, she tore out her breathing tube, flipped over on the operating table and sat straight up...screaming.
Since that time, she has gotten progressively happier but increasingly more bruised. When we are in public, I have to remember to tell people why she looks like she lost a bar fight just so that they won't call DCFS and report me.
We go back to see Dr. Rabiah on Thursday and will know better during that post-op visit about the success of the surgery. I still see some crossing but I am also very hopeful that it will improve over the next few days/weeks.
Thanks to all of our friends and family who have supported Madeleine and us through this process. We feel so much gratitude to each and every one of you.
XOXO - Joyce
